FAQ
What is Agoy?
Agoy is a healing practice that combines movement, sound and meditation with healing energy. It is designed to be gentle, so that all you experience is peace, happiness and joy.
Where did the name come about?
About 20 years ago when John Morris, the creator designed workshops for healing. He then envisaged the idea of a practice that would combine movement, sound, colour and energy. About 15 years later it took the form of a type of yoga. So he had the idea of inverting the word 'yoga' to form 'agoy'.
Where did the practice come about?
John envisioned the yoga practice that would entail gentle movements, sound therapy, colour breathing and other meditation practices working on the 7 major energy centres of the body. After Jason Watson, the facilitator of agoy, and John Morris met they collaborated on developing the practice of agoy from a host of bodymind practices and meditations, inspired the Tibetan Buddhist bodymind healing practices.
How does the practice work?
The practice works by combining gentle repetitive movements with pure sound tones held in one note at a time while focusing on the energy centres of the body, to clear them, producing experiences of peace and clarity. We also use a colour breathing meditation and kidney breathing meditation to enhance the healing taking place. The bulk of the healing is enabled through the energetic attunement of agoy that the facilitator channels into the space before class starts.
What are energy centres?
They are otherwise called Chakras. They are centres or vortices of energy that some seers can see to be located at various parts of the body. We use the 7 major centres often mentioned in Hindu spiritual traditions which are at the base of the spine, beneath the navel, beneath the breast bone, in the middle of the chest, where the Adam’s apple is, the middle of the forehead, and on top of the head. These centres correspond with various attributes of consciousness for example at the base of the spine the centre corresponds with security, connections to one’s tribe, having things, abundance, being grounded and present, the physical body and others.
How are the sessions conducted?
The sessions are conducted with a group, where the facilitator guides participants through the various movements and meditations, selecting the appropriate pure sound tone for each energy centre. There can be anything up to 15 people in class. Classes sessions run for an hour.
What is the future scope for Agoy?
Presently, Agoy I and II are facilitated at a general level. Each level encompasses various movements with different qualities. The facilitator chooses the level used on the day based on the requirements of the group. Further on down the track we will introduce other forms of Agoy that will have a number of functions like focusing more on particular body-parts that might need attention, like the glandular system or lymphatic system. Also next year we are looking to train teachers of Agoy and then teach Agoy in more areas of Melbourne. At the moment we are only teaching in St Kilda.

What is John's background?
John has about 35 years experience in energetic healing work, conducting individual sessions, teaching meditation and spiritual practices, and occasionally running healing workshops and money mastery workshops.
And what’s John role in Agoy now?
At the moment John and Jason run a Wellbeing Evening on Thursday, which have proven popular, where Jason facilitates agoy and John conducts a group healing meditation. Furthermore, John and Jason are continuing to develop other forms of Agoy.
